VIDEO MAGIC :: swirl twirl girl edition

Vondelpark :: Camels

dir. Ciaran Wood

The once extremely mysterious and internet absent trio Vondelpark is now releasing thier second EP - NYC Stuff and NYC Bags - through the wonderful R & S Records and if this video for the single Camels is any indication, it will be an amazing second effort. This song has an aching beauty and crispness that was a bit present on their Sauna EP but now seems more fully realized and developed. Really beautiful work from this Los Angeles Based group. Very much a band to keep an eye on.

As the cold wind of winter’s icy breath touches the back of my neck, the speed of things around me changes. Here is my first mixtape that I have made to welcome in the coming months of brutal cold, lots of blankets, and a giant space heater. It features new, unreleased tracks, some killer remixes, and some awesome older tunes. quite the hodgepodge.

Venice Beach by E A S Y from the album: Joel Amey's Album

Haunted Ghost’s Chanson Du Jour: elusive everything edition

E A S Y :: Venice Beach

I love this song. Everything about it just hits me in such a heavy way. But E A S Y is an absolute enigma. Considering the equally anonymous and mysterious Vondelpark collaborated with them on this, I might venture to guess that they’re from the UK, but really, I have no idea. Being the masters of the hidden face - no myspace, no facebook, no google friendly name - it is difficult to really pin these folks down.

But why the anonymity? Because now it’s solely about the music. No silly image, no faces to the sound, just this tight, four minute piece with a building climax like no other. When the tweaked guitars roar in at the end, lifting each note of the song higher and higher, it takes you along. By the end, you’re soaring, hovering about the ground on a song so fine-tuned and simple, yet so deeply involved, you’re left in that weird limbo of wanting more but having enough, of being satisfied and insatiable. Given the lack of info, there’s a general uncertainty as to the future of the project. Will it continue to exist, or was this four minute moment it? There’s no telling, so sit back, enjoy the song on repeat (as I do) and know you’re basically listening to a beautiful ghost.
