Owl Vision :: Deathstar
dir. David Strindberg & Johan Bring of PUNX STHLM
So continuing with the Scandanavian theme today, I’ve decided to take my blog posts to Sweden, and what better way to kick it off than with the awesome new video from the godfather of swedish death electro himself, Owl Vision. This has been a busy year for Johannes Arnesson, the solo producer behind Owl Vision, as he has started his own record label, Comorbid Records, done a slew of remixes for the likes of the Destroy Squad, Adam Tensta, and Stern, to name a few, and is prepping his next full length album. If that’s not enough he’s been developing his live set for a European tour later this year. This track, Deathstar, is the first single off his upcoming album and features some more melodic tendencies than usual OV, then breaks into the grimy, intense polyrhythms and breaks all too familiar. A solid tune. Very much looking forward to this album. Also, here is the most recent remix he did for Australia’s grime group Vengeance. Heavy heavy hits.
Those who have known me for a while may remember when I used to blast the heaviest of electro jams from my Brooklyn apartment window at 3 in the morning, or the time that, for just a moment, I was the total rave king of Chapel Hill, NC. Might even remember a time when I tried to have an epic rave party in my back yard when I was 14 and living in Wilmington, NC. So it should come as no surprise that this weekend for Halloween I intend to bring back my former self and deliver some of the spookiest and most in your face, heart pounding death electro sets this side of the world. What’s death electro? Well, it’s grimy, pounding, adrenalin cranking electronic music that is reminiscent of power tools at a tribal dance party. So, for this week’s music class, I will talk about some of the premiere death shredders on the scene right now:
Owl Vision: (Gothenburg, Sweden) While the sun doesn’t rise for months at a time, one of the sickest death electro is toiling, making sure to deliver some of the nastiest remixes and originals this world has ever seen. Johannes Arnesson - the brain behind Owl Vision - is one of the first to kick the grime up to maximum in electro, and has been making some of the heaviest, most destructive bangers since 2007. Play this at every party, watch everyone go crazy.

FCKN CREW: (Bastia, France) France has been well known for having some of the heaviest and most intense electro on the scene, but FCKN CREW take it to the next level, taking the poppier sensibilities pioneers of French house and electro from Justice all the way back to Jean-Michel Jarre and shredding it in a high speed, high power blender. Out pours some of the most in your face, bangworthy jams in a frothy, health shake form.

HAEZER : (Cape Town, South Africa) Relatively recent arrival, HAEZER’s Ebenhaezer Smal has been making thrashy, brutal electro and playing circuits around South Africa since 2008, opening for touring acts like Steve Aoki, GTRONIC, and Le Castle Vania. After putting out his first single Who the Fuck is Haezer? in June of 2010 he began doing more international tours and killin’ it on the Global circuit.
F.O.O.L. [aka Fuck Our Ordinary Lives] : (Eskilstuna, Södermanlands län, Sweden) Every once in a while you hear a band so heavy and so good at what they do you can’t even dance, you can only sit there reveling in the utter beauty and brutality of the experience. These dark masters from Sweden have only been around for about a year or so, but they have already supplanted themselves firmly in the dark electro scene, doing a slew of awesome remixes and putting out 3 solid EPs. Also, their name is awesome.

HUORATRON : (Helsinki, Finland) Man, something must be in the water of Scandinavia, or maybe it is those long months of darkness, but the death electro coming out of there is just so grimy and intense!! Aku Raski, the man behind the monster, has a mammoth beard, a shiny bald head, and a sound so rocking and staccato that you’ll feel like you’re in a rave slasher epic. He’s going to be performing in NYC on November 12th at Webster Hall. That’s not a recommendation, that’s an order.
The Destroy Squad : (Italy) A DJ super group so to speak, Giovanni (aka BassTripper) and Omar (aka DJ Ominox) of Wild Boyze team up with Andrea (aka Destroy), met and formed in November of 2009 and began playing some of heaviest, most shred worthy electro jams after desiring to create really aggressive club music. The three are putting their other projects aside to focus exclusively on The Destroy Squad. Keep an eye out, it’s going to get brutal.

Give Me A Kiss : (Paris, France) Like I said, French dudes are always killin it and this trio is no exception. After winning the remix competition for Popular Computer’s song Darling, they became more widely known throughout Europe and soon were doing extensive tours and have put out their first EP. If this is a kiss, then their lips must be a fist.

Noize Generation: (Coburg, Germany) Fresh on the scene, Noize Generation has been slowly making a lot of friends. Mastermind Jewgeni Grischbowski must be having a good year, with his songs being remixed by pretty much everyone I’ve mentioned above (including a brilliant remix of his song Lights by F.O.O.L.) and European tours beginning. Keep watching this guy

No1Else: (Paris, France) Sleek, sexy, ruthless, devastating, another Frenchman delivers some of the hardest, most villainous smash hitters. His new EP- Heads-Up Ravers -is a total knockout. Brace yourselves.

Honestly, that’s all just the tip of the iceberg. It seems that people are catching on to the fact that more and more, folks just want to dance to the most intense, heavy, heart racing shit they can. Enter Death Electro.
