120 Days :: Dale Disco
So, in a way I will finish here with Norway a bit where I started. Psych noise disco quartet - Jonas Dahl, Arne Kvalvik, Kjetil Ovesen, and Ådne Meisfjord- have been playing music together since meeting in highschool, when they decided to buy a van together and live under a bridge in Oslo in 2002. After junkies repeatedly broke into their mobile home to do heroin, they said they had enough, got the money together for a flat, and started playing music. Being too poor to afford an actual drum set, so they bought a drum machine. And so, the noise electro-gaze group 120 Days was born. After a year or so of playing around clubs, they were picked up by the Oslo based Public Demand Records and put out two singles. In 2004, after the release of the second single, The Beautiful People EP, they gained immediate attention for the rock infused electronic music as people engaged with the grimier sound, as if dredging through the roughness of the Oslo underground nightlife. They toured and did the festival circuit for a while, disappeared on a brief sabbatical, and now are releasing their full length album on Norway’s Smalltown Supersound and on Vice Records in the US.
The singer, Adne, is also the keyboardist for Serena-Maneesh from time to time. Full circle.
